We spent yesterday exploring Kangerdlugssuaq Fjord which literally means a really, really, big fjord. (Greenlandic names are so long because they want the name to be so descriptive.) The Kanderdlugssuaq glacier is the largest on the east coast of Greenland, draining 35% of the icecaps and is responsible for calving large amounts of spectacular icebergs into the fjord. We sailed in under a shroud of fog which may everything so mysterious. The captain had to maneuver the ship between a sea filled with ice floes and bergs to find a landing spot, which proved to be a feat well accomplished.

As the skies cleared we found a landing place and boarded Zodiacs and kayaks to explore. The photos speak for themselves.

Before we returned to the ship there was a surprise awaiting.

When we finished cruising through the fjord we were brought to a rock and treated to the Fabulous Fossils and the Fossilettes live gig. Can you imagine? We were singing and dancing to Jumping Jack Flash in the middle of practically nowhere. (Larry, I requested, and they played, Love Potion Number 9 for you). This experience is just unbelievable. Tonight was supposed to be the Arctic Polar Plunge off the aft of the ship. Mark and I were 50/50 on participating. How in the hell do you jump into an ice pool in the Arctic Sea but how in the hell do you not jump into the Arctic Circle when you have a chance? However the fog started to roll back in and the Captain wanted to get out of the fjord before it was too treacherous, so the plunge had to be cancelled. Of course, at that point everyone said they were going to participate. Not to worry, it will be rescheduled.
