So it is said, Antarctica is the last great wilderness. We have begun our journey to experience this land during its brief but busy summer. Antarctica, defined politically as the region below latitude 60° South, is owned by no country but instead is managed by the collective governance of the Antarctic Treaty nations for the purposes of peace and science.

We begin, oh so very early, with a 5:50am flight to Miami where we connect to, oh so very long, 10 hour flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina where we arrive two hours before New Years Eve.

With 12 hours before our next flight, we gather our luggage, go through customs and let a room at the Holiday Inn Buenos Aires-Ezeiza Airport. We laid our heads down at 11:30pm and were awakened by the sound of fireworks at midnight. From our sixth floor room I watched a dazzling display of sparks and color like none I have ever seen. Here endeth another year, I wonder how our next one will be spent.
