As we arrived in Adelaide we were treated to a performance by David Hudson, an Aboriginal musician. Aborigines were the original inhabitants of Australia, similar to the American Indians. David is a world pioneer in the art of the didgeridoo, an ancient Australian wind instrument, developed well over 1,000 years ago and still in widespread use today. It is made from wood, typically eucalyptus because it is so prevalent in Australia. Craftsmen search for trees hollowed-out by insects, usually termites. They will eat through the living heartwood of the tree but leave the outer layer alone due to sap that repels the insects.  

The didgeridoo is played with continuously vibrating lips exhaling while still breathing through the nose. Looked extremely difficult to master. It sounds were akin to animals found in Australia. Traditionally played as accompaniment to ceremonial dancing and singing, we were treated to a performance right onboard.
