Friday, January 8, 2016: Exploring the Antarctic Sound towards Brown Bluff and the Weddell Sea

Weather Forecast: mostly clear and sunny; temperature approximately 21°F with windchill 15°; light breeze S 5-10 knots

We are traveling through Antarctic Sound to skirt the northern fringe of the Weddell Sea, commonly known as Iceberg Alley. Just off the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, it is home to hundreds of tabular icebergs. The immensity of these ice islands is hard to comprehend. Many of these photos were taken close to midnight when the sun was setting in yellows and oranges port side, appeared to be rising in pink on starboard side and the penguins were having parties everywhere a piece of ice was floating.
