We start out on foot to explore our first Canary Island, Gran Canaria and its largest and most cosmopolitan city, Las Palmas.

It is a city of parks and statues.

A city that moves with waterfront promenades for walkers and runners and dedicated bicycle lanes with traffic signals.

There is art and poetry, sometimes it’s hard to tell where one stops and another begins.

There is a range of architecture, none particularly distinctive or distinguished.

There are tour boats, working boats and lots and lots of sailboats.

There are beaches and lots of beachgoers.

There’s personal expression, some with clothes, some without.

And like in seems in all cities, all roads point to the casino.
